Swim Observation and
Swimmer Report
GoMOWSA has provided an observation log (download below) for use in recording observations related to marathon swims presented for ratification. While use of this log is not required, all of the data points contained in this log are required to be documented in an organized way and presented clearly. The observer in charge of the log must maintain control over the recording of the data points herein. Should the length of the swim require more than one observer, the change-over of observers should be made clear in the log.
The observer should record any decisions or events relevant to how the swim was carried out. This includes the route, dates, times, crew members and their roles. Additionally, changes in route required due to safety considerations, positioning of the swimmer relative to escort vessels and support swimmers, and documentation of weather, water, wildlife, and swimmer conditions should all be recorded. Consideration of the swim documentation is a critical part of the committee’s ratification process and will be published on the GoMOWSA website as evidence of the successful swim in combination with photographic and GPS evidence.
The swimmer should also provide a narrative describing the swim from their own perspective and any goals or planning that went into the swim. Please see the Swimmer Report document linked below for guidance.
